The Approach
A landmark like the Capitol can take over a photograph. I frame it so it supports the two of you rather than competing with you, and I spend most of the session on the small things: the laugh before a kiss, a hand on a collar, the second when you forget the camera is there.
I give clear, relaxed direction and keep the session unhurried, so you can enjoy it. The goal is photographs that look like you on your best, happiest day.
The Setting
Few places give you a landmark this recognizable with this much open space around it.
The Capitol Reflecting Pool puts the dome and the sky behind you with water in the foreground, so the building stays in the frame without crowding you.
Pale stone and a wide sky give you a calm, uncluttered background. One strong color in your outfit stands out clearly.
Fall leaves and spring blossom both frame the Capitol, and the light changes a lot between a morning and an evening session.
A few blocks away, rowhouses, tree-lined streets and Eastern Market give a quieter, more neighborhood look.
Capitol South and Union Station are the closest Metro stations, which helps when you are coming into the city for the session.

I am happy to talk through outfits. One saturated color against the pale stone and sky photographs well, and shoes you can walk in matter.
I give gentle direction when it helps and step back when it doesn't, so the photographs feel like a moment between the two of you.

Questions
The Capitol Reflecting Pool is a strong choice for a view of the dome with water in the foreground. If you want a quieter look, the rowhouse streets and the area around Eastern Market are a short distance away. Two or three locations is usually plenty.
Early morning or the hour or two before sunset, when the light is soft and the grounds are usually quieter. Check the sunset time for your date and we will plan around it.
Wear what you feel good in, and choose outfits that complement each other rather than match. The stone and sky are pale, so one saturated color, such as a red coat, stands out. Choose shoes you can walk in.
